The Selous Game Reserve is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites for being one of Africa's largest protected game reserves.

With an area of 50,000 km2, the game reserve is acclaimed by the Nyerere National Park and has a diverse and active ecosystem. The wildlife in Selous is one of the best in Tanzania due to the variety of wildlife mammals that you can witness throughout the open grasslands, riverine forests, and swamps.

It is a splendid place to experience a boat safari due to the high density of wildlife. Here you will have the opportunity to see the endangered black rhino, various bird species, crocodiles, and hippos.

The Selous Game Reserve is home to over 440 species of birds which can be seen on the boat safari along the river Rufiji and the lake shores. The best time for birdwatching is during migratory birds’ flocks, which occur from November to April.
